Action Roll
An action roll in Daggerheart RPG is made when the outcome of a move is in question and interesting to the story.
An action roll happens whenever a character attempts something whose outcome is uncertain and whose success or failure would be meaningful to the story. If the result is obvious — trivially easy or clearly impossible — there's no roll; the fiction answers the question.
You resolve the roll with your Duality Dice, following four steps:
1. Choose a Trait
The GM identifies which character trait applies and sets a Difficulty target (openly or secretly, depending on the situation).
2. Gather Modifiers
Check whether any Experiences, tokens, advantage, or disadvantage dice apply, and add them to your roll.
3. Roll & Tally
Roll your Duality Dice plus any extra dice, sum everything up, and announce both the total and which Duality Die won (e.g. "15 with Fear").
4. Resolve
Together with the GM, determine what happens next based on your total versus the Difficulty and whether Hope or Fear came out on top.
