Reaction Roll
A reaction roll in Daggerheart RPG is a roll in response to an attack or hazard, representing your effort to avoid or withstand the effect.
A reaction roll is your instinctive response to an incoming attack, trap, or environmental hazard — can you dodge, endure, or resist in the split-second you have?
Mechanically it works like an action roll, but with two key differences: it does not generate Hope or Fear, and no one else can assist you. You're on your own.
The GM names the relevant trait and the Difficulty. A typical prompt reads something like: "Make an Agility Reaction Roll (14) or take 3d12 physical damage."
If you critically succeed on a reaction roll, you don't clear Stress or gain Hope, but you ignore any effects that would still impact you on a success (such as taking damage or marking Stress).
