Spend Fear
Learn how spending Fear works in Daggerheart RPG. Whenever you spend Fear, describe how fate changes the world against the characters.
Fear is the GM's currency. When you spend it, describe how fate turns against the characters — an ambush springs, an enemy powers up, or the environment turns hostile.
Ways to Spend Fear
- Interrupt the players to make a GM move between their turns.
- Make an additional GM move after your current one.
- Activate an adversary's Fear Feature (costs the indicated amount).
- Activate an environment's Fear Feature.
- Add an adversary's Experience modifier to one of their rolls.
How Much Fear per Scene?
- Incidental (rest, resupply): 0–1 Fear
- Minor (travel, small skirmish): 1–3 Fear
- Standard (notable battle, tense social scene): 2–4 Fear
- Major (boss fight, character-defining moment): 4–8 Fear
- Climactic (arc villain, epic set piece): 6–12 Fear
